Trouble Focusing? Tips to help you stay on track.

Even before the pandemic people were living with a significant amount of stress. That stress releases a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can be helpful if your life is being threatened and you need to act fast to protect yourself (think fight-flight response), but it is less useful when you are just dealing with day-to-day stressors. Our Houston Anxiety treatment can help you if you are feeling anxious and having trouble focusing.

When you have stress over a long period, it can wreak havoc on your body, causing issues with anxiety, depression, sleep, weight gain, and memory and concentration impairment.

There are so many things that add stress to our lives which have made it harder in turn to focus. So what can you do to improve your focus? Here are a few quick tips.

Tips for Improving Focus

1) Limit your social media time.

It's normal to want to vege out, but your brain needs some downtime.

2) Do NOT multitask.

You may think you are being efficient, but ultimately multitasking just means you are doing everything with less attention and focus which can increase your stress level.

3) Take time each day to take care of yourself.

Going for a walk in nature, exercising, meditating, doing deep breathing, talking to a friend who cares about you, or other recharging activities will do wonders for your mind. Make your mental health a priority, or you will suffer in other ways.

4) Stay in the present moment.

One of the reasons we have trouble with focus is we try to think and do too many things at once. We forecast future problems and how to solve them. You can only really do anything about the present. Take it one hour at a time.

We hope you find these resources helpful! If you are struggling with loneliness, conflict, or anxiety, speaking to a professional counselor in Houston can help.
