01 / BEGIN HERE

Getting Started

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Here are a few things to know as you begin.

Who goes to therapy?

Therapy can be helpful for anyone struggling with an issue that acts as a barrier to reaching their goals, anyone who has something difficult to discuss or process, or anyone who needs help learning skills to navigate conflict in relationships.

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. Sometimes having a supportive professional to talk with can help you gain perspective, understand yourself, and move forward.

How do I know which therapist is right for me?

Every therapist brings a unique personality, background, and area of expertise to their work. During the consultation process, we take time to learn about your goals, preferences, and concerns so we can help connect you with a therapist who may be the best fit.

Finding the right therapeutic relationship is an important part of counseling. We're happy to help guide you through the process.

Meet our therapists to learn more about their backgrounds and specialties.

What should I expect during my first therapy session?

Your first session is primarily an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another. You'll talk about what brought you to counseling, your goals, and any questions or concerns you may have.

You don't need to prepare a speech or have everything figured out before you arrive. Many clients feel nervous before their first appointment, and that's completely normal. Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

Will my insurance company cover your services?

Wilson Counseling is a private-pay practice and is not in-network with insurance companies.

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of your therapy costs.

We provide clients with a superbill at the end of each month. The superbill contains information your insurance company typically needs when you submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement.

Clients who would like help submitting their claims can also choose to use Reimbursify, a third-party service that allows you to submit out-of-network claims using your superbill through its app.

We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm your specific benefits and reimbursement eligibility.

What should I ask my insurance company about out-of-network benefits?

When contacting your insurance company, you may want to ask the following questions:

  • Does my health insurance plan include out-of-network coverage for mental health services?
  • Is there a deductible? If yes, what is it?
  • What percentage or amount of care is covered once I meet my deductible?
  • Do you reimburse all diagnoses?
  • Where do I submit the superbill, how often does it need to be submitted, and how long does reimbursement take?
What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt for therapy services. It includes information your insurance company may require when you submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement.

Wilson Counseling provides superbills to help clients submit eligible claims directly to their insurance providers. Reimbursement depends on your individual insurance plan.

03 / SCHEDULING

Appointments & Scheduling

Learn more about session lengths, appointment frequency, and what to do if your plans change.

What if I can't make my appointment or need to cancel?

We have a limited number of sessions available each day. When you schedule, we reserve that appointment time specifically for you.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide a minimum of 24 hours' notice.

If you do not provide at least 24 hours' notice, you are responsible for the full session fee. If you provide at least 24 hours' notice, we would be happy to help reschedule or cancel your appointment.

How long does a counseling session last?

A standard counseling session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Double sessions are generally 90 minutes.

Longer sessions can be especially helpful for couples at the beginning of therapy, as they allow more time to explore concerns and reduce stress and tension.

How often should I attend therapy?

Many clients prefer weekly sessions when their concerns are acute. However, appointments may be scheduled less frequently as needed.

Your therapist can work with you to determine a schedule that supports your goals and progress.

04 / THE BENEFITS

About Therapy

Therapy is more than having someone to talk to. It can help you understand yourself, develop new skills, and make meaningful changes.

What can therapy do for me?

Therapy can help you become the person you were created to be. A trained therapist can come alongside you in a therapeutic relationship and help you work toward things you may have struggled to achieve on your own.

Therapy can help you:

Decrease feelings of sadness or anxiety
Increase coping strategies
Improve communication skills
Increase self-awareness
Recognize your strengths
Process grief, loss, and trauma
Work through family and childhood issues
Manage anger and build assertiveness
Develop a healthier relationship with food and your body
Does therapy work?

Therapy can help people develop new ways of understanding and responding to difficult experiences, emotions, and relationship patterns.

Progress looks different for everyone. Your experience may depend on your goals, concerns, the approach used, and your work between sessions.

At Wilson Counseling, we believe in solutions-oriented therapy sessions that are focused on your goals. Therapy takes effort and patience, but you do not have to navigate the process alone.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy varies depending on your needs, goals, and circumstances. Some people seek support for a specific concern, while others benefit from continued work over a longer period.

Your therapist will work with you to identify goals and evaluate progress along the way.

Is counseling worth it?

Investing in your emotional health can have a meaningful impact on your relationships, family, career, and overall well-being.

Counseling provides an opportunity to work through challenges with professional support, develop healthier patterns, and make changes that align with the life you want to build.

Your emotional wellness and the well-being of your relationships are important. Seeking help can be a meaningful investment in yourself and your future.
